# Use Perplexity Web Search with Vercel AI Gateway

Any model on Vercel's AI Gateway can now search the web via Perplexity, priced at $5 per 1,000 requests with no markup.

Vercel's [AI Gateway](<https://creatorstoolbox.com/tools/vercel>) now supports Perplexity web search as a provider-agnostic tool, so any model available through the gateway can search the web in real time with a single line of code. This works even with models that have no native search capability of their own, such as MiniMax M2.1 or Zai GLM-4.7.

Developers add it by importing gateway.tools.perplexitySearch() from @ai-sdk/gateway and passing it as a tool named perplexity\_search. Requests can be scoped with options like searchDomainFilter and searchRecencyFilter, useful for cases like checking status pages or filtering to recent results. The same search logic works unchanged across different models, which matters for production setups that switch models for cost or failover reasons. AI Gateway separately supports native web search from Anthropic, OpenAI, and Google for those wanting provider-optimized tools instead.
