# The Vercel Sandbox CLI is now more agent-friendly By Steven Van · 2026-08-18 The Sandbox CLI version 4.0.1 ships four output and error improvements: New sandboxes point users towards how to connect into them. The [Vercel]() Sandbox CLI's [4.0.1 update]() rewrites its output and error messages so each one now points to the next action instead of leaving developers to work it out. - Creating or forking a sandbox now ends with a connect hint, for example **connect with: sandbox ssh my-sandbox**. - Referencing a sandbox that doesn't exist returns a quiet error pointing to **sandbox ls --all** instead of a raw API dump. Setting **DEBUG=sandbox:errors** still shows the full request detail. - Since **sh** opens a plain interactive shell and takes no command of its own, typing a command after it now returns the command that was likely intended, such as **sandbox run -i claude**. - **create**, **sh**, and **run** now check for a newer published CLI version and print an update notice when the install is behind, since creation defaults like the base image are chosen client side and an outdated install would otherwise use old defaults silently. The check is cached and refreshed at most once an hour, runs concurrently with the creation request so it adds no latency, and can be skipped with **SANDBOX\_SKIP\_VERSION\_CHECK=1** or on prerelease versions.
