# Streamdown 2.5 is now available

By Steven Van · 2026-03-16

Streamdown 2.5 adds inline KaTeX, staggered streaming animations, and fixes for CSV exports and Tailwind v3 compatibility.

Vercel's [Vercel](<https://creatorstoolbox.com/tools/vercel>) has released Streamdown 2.5, an update to the React component library for rendering streaming markdown in AI applications. The [release](<https://vercel.com/changelog/streamdown-2-5>) covers streaming parser fixes, new animation controls, and code block improvements.

- A new **inlineKatex** option (off by default) auto-completes $formula to $formula$ while streaming, so it no longer conflicts with currency symbols; block KaTeX completion is also fixed for a partial closing $.

- A single ~ between word characters, as in 20~25°C, is now escaped so it doesn't render as strikethrough, controlled by a new **singleTilde** option that is on by default.

- Streaming word and character animations now cascade instead of appearing all at once, with timing set by a new **stagger** option (40ms default); setting stagger: 0 restores the old behaviour.

- Code blocks gain a **meta** prop exposing the raw fence metastring to custom renderers, plus a **lineNumbers** prop to turn off line numbers. Long lines now scroll horizontally instead of clipping, completed blocks no longer re-render on new streamed content, and unrecognised or truncated language identifiers fall back to plain text instead of throwing an error.

- **save()** now prepends a UTF-8 BOM to CSV exports so Excel on Windows detects the encoding correctly, and Tailwind v4-only \*:last:/\*:first: syntax has been replaced with arbitrary-variant equivalents, fixing caret rendering under Tailwind CSS v3.
