# SSH into running Vercel Sandboxes with the CLI

By Steven Van · 2026-01-15

The Vercel Sandbox CLI adds an SSH-like connect command that auto-extends a running Sandbox's timeout for up to 5 hours.

The [Vercel](<https://creatorstoolbox.com/tools/vercel>) Sandbox CLI can now open interactive shell sessions to a running Sandbox. Running sandbox ssh sandbox-id (or sandbox connect) connects directly to the instance from the terminal.

While connected, the Sandbox's timeout is automatically extended in 5-minute increments to avoid unexpected disconnections, up to a maximum of 5 hours. Details are in the [Sandbox CLI docs](<https://vercel.com/docs/vercel-sandbox/cli-reference>).
