# Sandbox now supports sudo and installing RPM packages

By Steven Van · 2025-07-04

Vercel Sandbox adds a sudo option to runCommand, so developers can install system packages like Go before running code.

Vercel Sandbox now supports running commands with sudo, using the sudo: true option on the runCommand method. That makes it possible to install system dependencies at runtime, such as Go, Python packages, or custom binaries, before executing code inside the sandbox. The sudo configuration preserves **PATH**, sets **HOME** to /root, and passes through custom environment variables. Vercel says this removes the workarounds previously needed to run untrusted code with the right permissions inside [Vercel](<https://creatorstoolbox.com/tools/vercel>)'s isolated microVMs. Read the [full announcement](<https://vercel.com/changelog/sandbox-now-supports-sudo-and-installing-rpm-packages>).
