# Rust runtime now in public beta for Vercel Functions

By Steven Van · 2025-12-08

Vercel's Rust runtime beta adds Fluid compute, streaming, and a 64KB environment variable limit, up from 6KB.

The [Vercel](<https://creatorstoolbox.com/tools/vercel>) Rust runtime is now in public beta, on all plans. It's a first-class evolution of the community Rust runtime, running on Fluid compute with HTTP response streaming and Active CPU pricing. The environment variable limit for Rust functions also rises from 6KB to 64KB, and Rust deployments now integrate with Vercel's existing logging, observability, and monitoring systems.

To get started, add a **Cargo.toml** file and a handler function, then deploy via Git push or the Vercel CLI. Vercel has published two starter templates, Rust Hello World and Rust Axum, and full setup details in the [function docs](<https://vercel.com/changelog/rust-runtime-now-in-public-beta-for-vercel-functions>).
