# Run Docker containers inside Vercel Sandbox

By Steven Van · 2026-05-29

Agents can build containers, run Redis or Postgres as test dependencies, and sandboxes gain FUSE and VPN client support too.

[Vercel Sandbox](<https://creatorstoolbox.com/tools/vercel>) can now install and run Docker inside a sandbox, so an agent can build containers, install system packages, and modify files without touching the host system.

- Docker is useful for running containerized services like Redis or Postgres as test dependencies, validating container images before deploying, or previewing applications served from a container.

- Combined with persistent sandboxes, the Docker installation and pulled images carry over between sessions.

- Sandboxes also gained support for FUSE filesystem drivers and VPN clients.

Vercel later updated the [announcement](<https://vercel.com/docs/sandbox>) to note that, starting with SDK v3, new sandboxes default to the Ubuntu-based vercel/sandbox/universal:latest image, where Docker is installed with apt-get rather than the dnf command shown in the original example for the older Amazon Linux runtimes.
