# Run background tasks with Celery on Vercel

By Steven Van · 2026-07-31

Celery, an asynchronous distributed task queue for Python, is now supported natively on Vercel.

[Vercel](<https://creatorstoolbox.com/tools/vercel>) now natively supports [Celery](<https://vercel.com/changelog/run-background-tasks-with-celery-on-vercel>), the asynchronous distributed task queue for Python. Celery tasks run as Vercel Functions and scale automatically with traffic.

- Workers are declared as subscribers in pyproject.toml, and Vercel automatically installs the vercel:// broker and sets it as the default broker\_url, using Vercel Queues underneath.

- Task results are stored in Runtime Cache by default, which suits small data sizes and relatively short workflow runtimes. A durable result backend can be configured for stronger persistence, more storage, or longer retention.

- Celery workloads use Fluid compute with Active CPU pricing by default, so workers scale up and down with traffic and are billed only for what they use.
