# Reduced build times for large projects

By Steven Van · 2026-01-14

Vercel builds now average 2.8 seconds faster, with larger projects seeing gains of up to 12 seconds.

Vercel shipped build system optimizations that cut overhead for projects with many input files, large node\_modules, or large build outputs. Disk operations for large file detection and folder size calculations no longer sit on the critical path for successful builds; they now run only when a build fails, or when the VERCEL\_BUILD\_SYSTEM\_REPORT environment variable is enabled. Builds complete 2.8 seconds faster on average, with larger builds seeing improvements of up to 12 seconds. See the [builds documentation](<https://vercel.com/docs/builds>) for details.
