# Python package manager uv is now available for builds with zero configuration

By Steven Van · 2025-10-03

Vercel's Python builds now default to the Rust-based uv package manager, cutting install times 30-65% with no config changes.

uv, a Python package manager written in Rust, is now the default during the install step for all Python builds on [Vercel](<https://creatorstoolbox.com/tools/vercel>). Vercel says the switch makes builds 30-65% faster.

Dependency support also widens: alongside requirements.txt and Pipfile, projects can now declare dependencies with a uv.lock or pyproject.toml file. The change applies automatically, with [no configuration needed](<https://vercel.com/docs/functions/runtimes/python>).
