# next-forge 6 is now available

By Steven Van · 2026-03-13

Version 6 adds an installable agent skill, switches to Bun by default, and lets optional integrations degrade gracefully without their env vars.

next-forge, [Vercel](<https://creatorstoolbox.com/tools/vercel>)'s Turborepo template for Next.js apps, has reached version 6, with an agent skill, Bun as the default package manager, and graceful degradation for optional integrations.

- An agent skill (installed with *npx skills add vercel/next-forge*) gives a coding agent structured knowledge of next-forge's architecture, packages, and common tasks.

- Bun is now the default package manager. The CLI's init script detects your current package manager before prompting, and pnpm, npm, and yarn are still supported.

- Optional integrations degrade gracefully when their environment variables are missing, instead of throwing errors: Stripe, PostHog, BaseHub, and feature flags all return safe defaults. The only environment variable required to boot the project is **DATABASE\_URL**.

- A new [quickstart guide](<https://www.next-forge.com/docs/setup/quickstart>) gets a dev server running with just Clerk and a Postgres database, alongside a new Docker deployment guide and migration guides for Appwrite, Convex, and Novu.
