Vercel now offers a one-click, managed ruleset that blocks AI crawlers and scrapers such as GPTBot (OpenAI), ClaudeBot (Anthropic), PerplexityBot, and Bytespider (ByteDance) with a single toggle. It's free on all plans, and Vercel maintains and updates the bot list automatically as new crawlers appear, with no additional action needed. The protection runs with zero latency impact on legitimate traffic. Vercel notes that AI crawlers now generate more traffic than human users on many popular sites, adding to infrastructure costs and raising copyright and data usage concerns, and that many of these bots ignore robots.txt, making manual blocking unreliable. For broader coverage against bots that spoof user agents or omit identification headers, the ruleset can be combined with Bot Filter, and it can also be paired with granular conditions or rate limits for more customized protection.
