# Native support for SvelteKit's new OpenTelemetry spans

By Steven Van · 2025-08-18

Available now for SvelteKit apps on Vercel, using an experimental tracing flag and a Vercel OpenTelemetry instrumentation file.

[Vercel](<https://creatorstoolbox.com/tools/vercel>) now integrates directly with SvelteKit's new server-side [OpenTelemetry spans](<https://svelte.dev/docs/kit/observability>), which remain experimental. Turning on the tracing and instrumentation flags in svelte.config.js makes SvelteKit emit spans for the handle hook, server and universal load functions, form actions, and remote functions. Adding a src/instrumentation.server.ts file that calls Vercel's registerOTel from @vercel/otel wires those spans into Vercel's collector, so they appear in traces next to Vercel's own infrastructure spans.
