# Introducing VCR: Vercel Container Registry

By Steven Van · 2026-06-30

Vercel's new OCI-compliant registry stores container images with standard docker push and pull, optimized for Fluid Compute.

Vercel now has a built-in container registry. [Vercel](<https://creatorstoolbox.com/tools/vercel>) Container Registry (VCR) is an [OCI-compliant image registry](<https://vercel.com/docs/container-registry>) hosted on Vercel's own infrastructure, and it works with standard docker push, docker pull, and docker tag commands, so there's nothing new to learn or migrate.

- A Vercel project can hold unlimited repositories, created through the dashboard or automatically the first time you push to a new name.

- Authentication uses the same controls as the rest of Vercel: OIDC or an access token scoped to the project.

- Pushed images are optimized in the background for Sandboxes and Functions, stored as a precompiled snapshot in the same format as Sandbox Snapshots, which run on Fluid Compute.

- The Vercel build environment is automatically authenticated for the current project, so images can be built and stored as part of the normal build and deploy process, or a Dockerfile can be brought directly and hosted on Vercel Functions or Vercel Sandboxes.
