# Introducing the new v0 API

By Steven Van · 2026-08-05

Today we're introducing the new v0 API: programmatic, headless access to v0's app-building agent.

Vercel has released a new [v0 API](<https://vercel.com/blog/introducing-the-new-v0-api>), giving programmatic, headless access to [v0](<https://creatorstoolbox.com/tools/vercel>)'s app-building agent. It is now generally available.

A prompt sent to the API creates a chat, which acts as an isolated workspace for one app: v0 generates the code, starts a dev server in a Vercel Sandbox, and returns a preview URL that can be embedded in another interface. Follow-up messages sent to the same chat continue from the current state, and v0 verifies the running code so it can catch and fix errors as it works.

- Chat creation and messages support synchronous, asynchronous, or streamed responses, with streaming exposing every step (text, file reads and edits, searches, bash commands, tool calls) as ordered parts.

- Chats can also be created from an existing GitHub repository, a ZIP archive, or a set of files, rather than starting from a prompt alone.

- Up to three skills can be attached to a request to load design systems, components, and tokens; Design Systems 2.0 saves a design system as one of these skills.

- A finished app can be deployed to Vercel in a single API call.

- Agents can call v0 as a tool via an MCP server, or through @v0-sdk/ai-tools for TypeScript agents built with the AI SDK.

Vercel points to use cases such as a white-labelled app builder, triggering app generation or updates from a script, CI job, or webhook, and agents that hand back a working app instead of a code snippet.
