# Integrating Vercel and Sitecore for 2x faster development times and 111% higher conversions

A Vercel guide covers connecting a Next.js app to Sitecore XM Cloud, alongside an Avanade case study reporting 90+ Lighthouse scores.

Avanade's move to a headless stack on [Vercel](<https://creatorstoolbox.com/tools/vercel>), Next.js and Sitecore XM Cloud is the subject of a new customer story, and Vercel's [Sitecore XM Cloud integration guide](<https://vercel.com/docs/integrations/cms/sitecore>) shows how to build the same kind of setup. Avanade reports 90+ Lighthouse scores and a 42% decrease in carbon emissions after replacing monolithic systems and manual deployments.

The guide covers creating an XM Cloud project and website, then connecting a Next.js app built with Sitecore's JavaScript Rendering SDK (JSS) and deploying it to Vercel. Vercel provides a starter template, which can be cloned with create-next-app --example cms-sitecore-xmcloud or deployed in one click. The template contains only the frontend and leaves out the Docker configuration for running XM Cloud locally.

The app reads content from the site's GraphQL endpoint. Content editors log into XM Cloud to change content and the composition of pages. On Vercel, these environment variables need to be set:

- JSS\_APP\_NAME, GRAPH\_QL\_ENDPOINT, SITECORE\_API\_KEY and SITECORE\_API\_HOST

- FETCH\_WITH, set to GraphQL

Deployment Protection is on by default for new Vercel projects, and that can affect the Sitecore Experience Editor and Pages. The guide points to the Deployment Protection and XM Cloud documentation for the extra setup.
