# Granular branch matching for Git configuration in vercel.json

By Steven Van · 2025-02-25

Branch rules in vercel.json can now use glob patterns like internal-\* to switch off deployments for many branches with one entry.

Vercel project configuration now accepts glob patterns in git.deploymentEnabled, so one rule can cover many branches. Before, [Vercel](<https://creatorstoolbox.com/tools/vercel>) only let you switch off deployments for branches you named one by one.

The [Git configuration docs](<https://vercel.com/docs/projects/project-configuration/git-configuration#git-configuration>) give an example: setting "internal-\*": false stops deployments for any branch that begins with internal-. Patterns use minimatch syntax.

If a branch matches several rules and at least one is true, a deployment still happens. With "experiment-\*": false and "\*-dev": true, a branch named experiment-my-branch-dev will deploy.
