# Give your eve agent GitHub tools

By Steven Van · 2026-07-07

New @github-tools/sdk/eve toolset lets eve agents call GitHub with approval-gated writes and no stored credentials.

GitHub Tools now ships a toolset for [Vercel](<https://creatorstoolbox.com/tools/vercel>)'s eve agent framework, through a new @github-tools/sdk/eve subpath. A single file in agent/tools/ can register every GitHub tool, or scope things with a preset such as maintainer, enough to build a working GitHub agent in nine lines of code.

- Write tools such as mergePullRequest require human approval by default; individual tools can be gated with always, once, or a predicate based on the input, and pauses survive restarts and deploys.

- Five presets, **code-review**, **issue-triage**, **repo-explorer**, **ci-ops**, and **maintainer**, scope the toolset and can be merged.

- High-volume read tools like listPullRequestFiles and getCommit trim what the model sees, while channels still get the full payload.

A companion [knowledge base guide](<https://vercel.com/kb/guide/github-agent-eve>) walks through pairing the toolset with Vercel Connect, which mints short-lived GitHub tokens at runtime so no personal access token or app private key needs to live in the project, and wiring up an eve channel that replies to @mentions in issues and pull requests.
