# GitHub tools are now an installable eve extension

GitHub's eve extension replaces the deprecated direct-import path with Vercel Connect auth, scoped presets, and default approval on every write tool.

GitHub tools for Vercel's [eve](<https://creatorstoolbox.com/tools/vercel>) agent framework now ship as a mountable extension instead of a direct code import. Installing @github-tools/eve-extension and adding one file under agent/extensions/ gives an eve agent the same GitHub toolset that previously required importing @github-tools/sdk/eve directly into agent/tools/, a path the documentation now marks deprecated for new agents.

- Auth runs through a Vercel Connect connector, which mints short-lived, scoped GitHub tokens at runtime.

- Presets, including code-review, issue-triage, repo-explorer, ci-ops and maintainer, map to Connect scopes automatically, so tokens carry only the permissions the tools need.

- Every write tool requires approval by default. Individual tools can be gated with always, once, or a predicate based on the tool's input, such as approving comments only outside your own org.

- The filename sets the tool namespace, so a tool runs in the agent as, for example, github\_\_addPullRequestComment, and the config schema is validated on import.
