# eve adds new Slack event hooks and session controls

By Steven Van · 2026-07-27

New onMessage, cancel and reset helpers let eve's Slack channel reply without a mention, stop mid-turn, or start a fresh session.

eve's Slack channel, built on [Vercel](<https://creatorstoolbox.com/tools/vercel>), no longer needs a fresh mention on every message. Once a thread has an active eve session, a new onMessage hook fires on incoming Slack messages, and two helpers, isBotMentioned() and isSubscribed(), decide whether the agent should reply on its own. A related helper, thread.listParticipants(), returns the human Slack user ids in a thread in the order they joined, for routing that depends on who's taken part. Public channel replies now require the message.channels trigger event and the channels:history bot scope; private channels also need message.groups and groups:history.

Message hooks also get two session controls. Calling cancel() before returning a response stops the current turn but keeps the session, queuing the latest message as replacement input so a mid-turn correction isn't lost. Calling reset() retires the session entirely: the next message in that thread starts a new session with fresh history, state, and sandbox.
