# Edge Config reads and writes now billed per unit

Pro plan rates stay the same, now billed at $0.000003 per read and $0.01 per write instead of by package.

[Vercel](<https://creatorstoolbox.com/tools/vercel>) is changing how Edge Config reads and writes are billed on the **Pro** plan. Starting with the next billing cycle, both move from package-based pricing to per-unit pricing, at the same effective rates.

- Reads: **$0.000003** per read, replacing $3 per 1 million reads.

- Writes: **$0.01** per write, replacing $5 per 500 writes.

Vercel says per-unit billing scales more smoothly across team sizes and usage patterns, and helps Pro teams use Edge Config without immediately using up a large share of their included monthly usage credit. Edge Config has since been renamed [Global Config](<https://vercel.com/changelog/edge-config-is-now-global-config>), with the same API available as the *@vercel/global-config* package; existing projects keep working unchanged.
