# Custom metrics are now supported in Vercel Observability

By Steven Van · 2026-08-20

You can now emit your own metrics directly from your Vercel Functions and analyze them alongside Vercel's built-in observability data.

Vercel Functions can now emit custom metrics through the metric() function in the **@vercel/functions** package, letting developers record values like request latency or business events alongside [Vercel](<https://creatorstoolbox.com/tools/vercel>)'s built-in observability data. Metrics can carry attributes for filtering and grouping, and Vercel automatically adds attributes such as the source deployment and function region.

Once emitted, custom metrics show up across Observability: in the query builder for ad hoc slicing and aggregation, in notebooks for building and sharing dashboards, and via the CLI with the vc metrics command.

Custom metrics are billed as observability events. They're available on **Pro** and **Enterprise** plans with Observability Plus. Full details are in the [announcement](<https://vercel.com/changelog/custom-metrics-are-now-supported-in-vercel-observability>).
