# Chat SDK now supports conversation history

By Steven Van · 2026-05-08

The new transcripts option adds append, list, count and delete methods for cross-platform user history, backed by an official state adapter.

Vercel's [Chat SDK](<https://creatorstoolbox.com/tools/vercel>) can now store a user's message history across every platform adapter, so the same person keeps their conversation whether they message a bot on Slack, Discord, or elsewhere.

Two new config options drive it: **identity**, which maps each inbound message to a stable key such as the user's email, and **transcripts**, which sets retention and how many messages to keep per user. bot.transcripts then exposes four methods: **append** to persist an inbound message or bot reply, **list** to return entries chronologically, **count** for the total stored per user, and **delete** to wipe a user's history. Storage is backed by one of the official state adapters. The [documentation](<https://chat-sdk.dev/docs/conversation-history>) covers setup, and templates are available to get started.
