# Chat SDK now supports concurrent message handling

By Steven Van · 2026-03-24

Chat SDK's new concurrency setting lets developers choose drop, queue, debounce, or concurrent handling for overlapping thread messages.

The [Vercel](<https://creatorstoolbox.com/tools/vercel>) Chat SDK now has a [concurrency option](<https://chat-sdk.dev/docs/concurrency>) on the Chat class, letting developers set what happens when a new message arrives on a thread before the previous one has finished processing.

- **Drop** (the default): discards the incoming message.

- **Queue**: processes the latest message once the current handler finishes.

- **Debounce**: waits for a pause in the conversation and processes only the final message.

- **Concurrent**: processes every message immediately, with no locking.
