# Chat SDK adds web adapter support

By Steven Van · 2026-05-08

The new adapter lets developers build in-product assistants and support chat UIs, streamed to the browser via a preconfigured @ai-sdk/react hook.

[Vercel](<https://creatorstoolbox.com/tools/vercel>)'s Chat SDK now includes a [web adapter](<https://chat-sdk.dev/docs/contributing/building>), letting developers build browser-based chat interfaces such as in-product assistants or support agents alongside its adapters for platforms like Slack and Discord.

The bot is defined on the server with createWebAdapter, which takes a getUser callback to identify each visitor. On the frontend, a preconfigured useChat hook from @ai-sdk/react, exposed via @chat-adapter/web/react, streams the bot's replies into the browser.
