# Bun runtime on Vercel Functions

By Steven Van · 2025-10-28

Vercel's public beta lets projects pick Bun over Node.js for compute-heavy functions, cutting CPU-bound latency by 28% in testing.

Vercel now supports Bun as a runtime option for [Vercel](<https://creatorstoolbox.com/tools/vercel>) Functions, available in public beta alongside Node.js. Developers can choose Node.js for maximum compatibility or switch to Bun for compute-intensive workloads, and configure the choice per project via the **bunVersion** setting in vercel.json.

- The Bun runtime currently supports Next.js, Express, Hono, and Nitro, with more frameworks planned.

- In Vercel's internal testing, Bun reduced average latency by **28%** in CPU-bound Next.js rendering workloads compared to Node.js.

- Both runtimes run on Fluid compute, so Active CPU pricing applies and functions aren't charged for time spent waiting on a database query or API call.
