# Auto-add Git committers now available for Enterprise teams

By Steven Van · 2026-10-08

Enterprise owners choose between automatic and manual approval for new committers on private repos; automatic adds a billed Developer seat.

Enterprise teams on [Vercel](<https://creatorstoolbox.com/tools/vercel>) can now have Git committers added to the team automatically, without waiting for an owner to approve them. The setting applies to private repositories connected to the team's projects, and it is described in [Vercel's account documentation](<https://vercel.com/docs/accounts#collaboration-settings>).

## Two approval modes

- **Auto Approval:** a committer who is not yet a team member is added with the Developer role, and their deployment proceeds immediately. Team owners get a notification when someone is added this way.

- **Manual Approval (default):** the deployment is blocked until a team Owner approves the membership. Owners are notified of the pending request and can approve or decline it. Nothing is added or billed for the committer until approval, and declining adds no seat.

## Requirements and seats

The committer must have a Vercel account linked to their Git provider. Without one, the deployment fails in either mode until they create an account and link it.

Members added through either mode count toward the team's seats under its Enterprise agreement. With Auto Approval, a Developer seat is added and billed as soon as an eligible committer is added, with no confirmation step. Vercel's documentation advises Manual Approval for teams that want to decide who becomes a paid member.

## Where to change it

The mode is set under Settings > Members > Collaboration. In either mode, added committers get the Developer role, which gives visibility into team members and projects. The documentation says to grant write access only to trusted contributors.
