# AI SDK 7

AI SDK 7 adds reasoning control, typed tool context, a WorkflowAgent, harness integrations like Claude Code and Codex, and voice and video support.

[Vercel](<https://creatorstoolbox.com/tools/vercel>)'s [AI SDK 7](<https://ai-sdk.dev/v7/docs/ai-sdk-harnesses>) adds production features for agent development across five areas.

- **Developing agents:** a new reasoning option on generateText and streamText standardizes reasoning effort (for example reasoning: 'high') across providers, and tools can now take a fully typed, per-tool context (via a schema) for inputs like API keys that aren't generated by the model.

- **Running agents:** tool approvals, timeouts, sandbox support, and a new **WorkflowAgent** for durable runs.

- **Integrating harnesses:** a uniform API for running established agent harnesses, including Codex, Claude Code, Deep Agents, OpenCode, and Pi.

- **Observing agents:** telemetry, a Node.js tracing channel, lifecycle events, and performance statistics.

- **Beyond text:** provider-agnostic real-time voice support and video generation.

The release also adds MCP Apps support and a terminal UI. Developers upgrading from AI SDK 6 can run npx @ai-sdk/codemod v7 or install the migrate-ai-sdk-v6-to-v7 skill via npx skills add vercel/ai.
