# AI Gateway now supports team and project spend budgets

AI Gateway spend budgets can now be scoped to a team or a project, in addition to individual API keys.

Vercel's [AI Gateway](<https://creatorstoolbox.com/tools/vercel>) now lets teams cap spend at the team or project level, not just per API key. Set a dollar limit on a scope and the gateway stops further requests once it's reached, until the budget resets or someone raises it.

- A request can fall under multiple budgets at once (team, project, key) and has to clear all of them: if any one is over its limit, the request is rejected even if the others have room.

- BYOK spend isn't counted against budgets by default.

- Budgets can be set and tracked from the AI Gateway Budgets tab, with an overview showing spend against every scope's limit.

- Email spend alerts can notify a team's usage notification recipients at 50%, 75%, and 100% of a limit per refresh period. Alerts are off by default and only inform; they never block requests.

- A default budget can be set for projects or API keys, which any project or key without its own explicit budget will inherit.

- Budgets can also be set, listed, and removed from the CLI, with a refresh period of daily, weekly, monthly (the default), or none for a cumulative cap.
