# Google open-sources Stitch's DESIGN.md spec

By Steven Van · 2026-04-21

The draft format lets design rules move between tools and lets agents check color choices against WCAG rules.

Google has open-sourced the draft specification for **DESIGN.md**, a format built inside [Stitch](<https://creatorstoolbox.com/tools/stitch>) for describing a project's design rules. The [draft spec](<https://x.com/i/status/2046624729403142320>) is meant to work across any tool or platform, not just Stitch, and lets designers export and import the same set of rules between projects.

Because the rules are written in a structured file, agents reading it can tell what a given color is meant to be used for, and can check color choices against WCAG accessibility rules.
