# Use metaobject fields in Analytics reports

By Steven Van · 2026-09-28

Merchant-owned metaobjects are already on, and each definition can be switched off in settings; app-created ones stay off until enabled.

Metaobject fields can now be used to group and filter reports in [Shopify](<https://creatorstoolbox.com/tools/shopify>) Analytics. This applies when a metaobject is attached to a product, variant, customer or order through a metafield. A designer country, a warranty term or a loyalty tier can work like a custom metafield in a report. The [changelog entry](<https://changelog.shopify.com/posts/use-metaobject-fields-in-analytics-reports>) says merchant-owned metaobjects are already enabled.

- In a report, pick fields under Metaobjects, then the resource, the definition and the field. For example, Designer, then Country.

- Filter to a single value, like a designer in Italy.

- Use the same fields in the query editor.

- Turn a definition on or off in Settings, under Metafields and metaobjects. Open the metaobject and use Filter or group data in Analytics.

Existing metaobjects and the metafields that point to them are unchanged. Custom metafields and category metafields stay in the picker, in their own groups. Metaobjects created by an app stay off until the merchant or the app turns Analytics on for that definition.
