# Shopify's AI-agent checkout protocol rolls out to all merchants

By Steven Van · 2026-05-17

Shopify's Universal Commerce Protocol lets AI agents search the catalogue, build carts, and check out without per-agent integration work.

Shopify's **Universal Commerce Protocol** is now live for all merchants on the platform. It lets AI agents search Shopify's product catalog, described as billions of listings, build carts, and complete checkout directly, using a new UCP skill built for the purpose.

For a store owner using [Shopify](<https://creatorstoolbox.com/tools/shopify>), this opens a path for customers to buy through an agent instead of the store's own site or app, without needing separate integration work per agent. Details are in the [announcement](<https://x.com/i/status/2056406304046866586>).
