# Return window overrides now available

Overrides can set a different return period for chosen collections, products or variants, and the shortest matching window wins.

[Shopify](<https://creatorstoolbox.com/tools/shopify>) merchants can now give specific collections, products or variants their own return window, set by market. The change is described in [Shopify's return rules documentation](<https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/fulfillment/managing-orders/returns/return-rules>). An override can be longer or shorter than the default. For example, a store with a 90-day default can give a "Holiday 2026" collection a 14-day window.

The rules for which window applies:

- An item that matches an override uses that override's window instead of the default or market-specific window.

- If an item matches more than one override, the shortest window applies.

- Final sale items still can't be returned or cancelled, even if they match an override.

- Items that aren't final sale and match no override use the market-specific window. Without market-specific rules, the default window applies.

Overrides are added under Settings &gt; Policies &gt; Return and cancellation rules, using *+ Return window override*. Each one takes a number of days and a set of collections, products or variants. Changes to return rules apply only to future orders.
