# New protection against unexpected redirects

By Steven Van · 2026-10-21

Merchants can add trusted domains in Online Store Preferences from October 21 so customers skip the prompt for sites such as booking tools.

Shopify online stores now ask customers to confirm before sending them to a website outside the store. The message shows the website's address, and customers can continue to the site or return to the store.

## Which sites skip the message

Domains connected to the store, and supported Shopify and social websites, don't trigger the message. Websites a merchant owns but hasn't connected to the store might still trigger it.

## Adding trusted domains

From October 21, merchants can add other trusted domains in Online Store > Preferences. Examples Shopify gives are a booking tool or a partner site. Customers go directly to trusted domains without seeing the message.

The change is listed in the [Shopify changelog](<https://changelog.shopify.com/posts/new-protection-against-unexpected-redirects>) under Online Store.
