By Steven Van · 2026-05-06

NEJM, BMJ Journals and BMJ Best Practice now trigger automatically on relevant queries, with more sources planned.

[Perplexity](<https://creatorstoolbox.com/tools/perplexity>) now pulls from paywalled medical journals when it answers health questions in Computer. The [new Premium Health Sources](<https://www.perplexity.ai/hub/blog/announcing-premium-health-sources>) feature launches with the New England Journal of Medicine, BMJ Journals, and BMJ Best Practice, triggered automatically for relevant queries with no manual selection needed.

NEJM and BMJ Journals bring in peer-reviewed research and clinical studies, while BMJ Best Practice synthesises literature into point-of-care guidance on what clinicians should consider next. Every answer still includes citations back to the source. Perplexity says more sources are coming, including Micromedex, EBSCOhost, Health Affairs, VisualDx, the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the American Diabetes Association, and Springer Publishing.
