# Fast preset uses Fast Search

Perplexity's Agent API fast preset now runs on Fast Search, cutting web\_search cost to $1.00 per 1,000 calls and shaving 800ms off responses.

The Agent API's **fast** preset now runs on Fast Search (search\_type: "fast") instead of standard web search. Under this preset, [Perplexity](<https://creatorstoolbox.com/tools/perplexity>)'s web\_search tool cost drops from $2.50 to **$1.00** per 1,000 invocations, and search responses are about 800ms faster. Developers can still set search\_type: "web" on individual web\_search calls for rare, difficult, or ambiguous questions, independent of which preset the request uses.
