The AI model and the agent both run on your Mac, so Computer can work with native Mac apps and local files and run tasks without sending sensitive data to the cloud. Perplexity says the task’s planning, reasoning and file processing stay on the device, while code and tool execution run in isolated sandboxes. Local Computer launches with Qwen 3.6 and PPLX Pro, a post-trained version of Qwen, as the model options. If a task needs current information, browser use or connected apps, you can authorize Computer to use the cloud, and it can call on one of 15+ frontier models for harder reasoning. The existing Hybrid Compute mode, which starts in the cloud and works on private files locally, stays available in the same app. Local Computer is available now to Perplexity Pro, Max and Enterprise subscribers in the Perplexity Mac app on supported Apple silicon Macs.
