# Pencil adds Shader Mode for shaders in a design

By Steven Van · 2026-10-27

Shader Mode is a focused Pencil mode for writing shaders in the context of the design. Availability by plan is unstated.

On October 27, [Pencil](<https://creatorstoolbox.com/tools/pencil-dev>) introduced Shader Mode, a focused mode for crafting shaders inside the design. Pen.dev’s post says it is you and the shaders, in the context of the design, without the rest of the canvas in the way.

Official Pencil Shader Mode demo.

The product page at pencil.dev talks about vibe shaders and real-time shaders in general. It does not name Shader Mode. pencil.dev/shaders returned a 404 and redirected toward pen.dev. Don’t treat the marketing line as this mode.

The post does not say which plans include Shader Mode, or whether it is in the Cursor extension and the desktop app. Availability is unstated.
