# Pencil adds Shader Mode for shaders in the design

By Steven Van · 2026-10-27

Shader Mode lets Pencil users write shaders alongside the design itself, though the announcement does not say which plans get it.

Pencil has added Shader Mode, a focused mode for writing shaders in the context of the design. It was introduced on October 27 in an [announcement on X](<https://x.com/pendev/status/2115102976591499501>), and the idea is that shader work happens inside the design rather than in a separate place.

The announcement does not say which plans include Shader Mode, and it does not describe how the mode works beyond that. [Pencil](<https://creatorstoolbox.com/tools/pencil-dev>)'s product page mentions shaders in general but does not name this mode.
