# Start and poll async page writes

By Steven Van · 2026-07-08

notion.asyncTasks.retrieve({ task\_id }) adds typed support for the Retrieve an async task endpoint, and the page create and markdown update methods now…

[Notion](<https://creatorstoolbox.com/tools/notion>)'s API can now write large markdown documents in the background instead of holding a request open. Passing **allow\_async: true** to the page create and markdown update methods starts the write as an async task, and a new asyncTasks.retrieve method lets you poll that task until it succeeds or fails. Details are in the [changelog entry](<https://developers.notion.com/page/changelog#july-8-2026>).
