# OpenAI's search and fetch shape for ChatGPT

By Steven Van · 2026-10-07

ChatGPT content searches return only IDs, titles, and URLs, while fetched file download links sit under metadata.references.

Content searches through [Notion](<https://creatorstoolbox.com/tools/notion>) MCP’s ChatGPT connections now return a smaller set of fields, matching OpenAI’s MCP requirements for company knowledge and deep research.

## Search and fetch responses

The search tool returns a results array containing an id, title, and url for each match. ChatGPT search results no longer include highlights, path, timestamps, or notices.

The fetch tool returns id, title, text, url, and metadata. Both tools provide their responses as structuredContent and JSON text. When fetch receives include\_file\_urls: true, file download URLs appear under metadata.references.

## Scope of the change

The [documented response format](<https://developers.notion.com/guides/mcp/mcp-supported-tools>) applies to ChatGPT connections. User lookups and other clients remain unchanged.
