# notion-fetch no longer signs file URLs by default

By Steven Van · 2026-10-05

A new MCP tool retrieves download URLs for up to 25 file references, while database property files still include signed URLs inline.

Files in page blocks now appear as stable notion-file-block:// references in page markdown returned by [Notion](<https://creatorstoolbox.com/tools/notion>) MCP’s notion-fetch tool. Files in database properties still include signed URLs inline.

## Getting download URLs

The new notion-get-file-download-urls tool accepts up to 25 references to retrieve download URLs. Alternatively, pass include\_file\_urls: true to notion-fetch to include file URLs when fetching the page.

## Editing and copying markdown

Keep the stable references when editing or copying page markdown, rather than replacing them with download URLs. The [supported tools documentation](<https://developers.notion.com/guides/mcp/mcp-supported-tools>) covers the tools.
