By Steven Van · 2026-05-13

Developers can now use Markdown instead of Notion's block-based JSON, a feature Notion says was most requested.

[Notion](<https://creatorstoolbox.com/tools/notion>) has shipped a [Markdown API](<https://x.com/i/status/2054725946696241418>), letting developers read and write Notion content as Markdown instead of Notion's block-based JSON format. Notion says it was the most requested developer feature.

The release also comes with a recap of API and MCP improvements Notion has made over the past year:

- A Notion MCP that is 91% more token-efficient

- Root page creation
