# Higher Notion MCP search and query limits

Notion MCP allows 20 search and 20 data source query calls per connection every 10 seconds, and rate-limit errors now show up in text responses.

Notion MCP now allows 20 notion-search calls and 20 notion-query-data-sources calls per connection every 10 seconds, according to the [Supported tools page](<https://developers.notion.com/guides/mcp/mcp-supported-tools#rate-limits>). The limit counts every search call, including a content search that runs AI search. Saved view queries count toward the data source limit. notion-ai-search has no tool-specific limit.

Rate-limit tool errors from [Notion](<https://creatorstoolbox.com/tools/notion>) MCP also now include their structured JSON in the text response, for clients that read only text. The error's structuredContent.error has code: "rate\_limited", the wait in seconds as retry\_after\_seconds when known, and the limit that was hit as rate\_limit\_reason.

Notion MCP retries a rate limit once when the wait is 2 seconds or less. Otherwise it returns the error straight away. Notion's advice for clients that hit a limit is to reduce parallel searches or operations, or try again later. It notes that these values can change over time.
