# Custom emoji icons are validated

Notion's API now rejects custom\_emoji icons that don't match a real custom emoji in the workspace, instead of saving one that reads back as null.

Notion's API now validates custom\_emoji icons on pages, databases, data sources, and callouts. The id passed in must match a custom emoji that exists in the integration's workspace; if it doesn't, the request returns a validation\_error instead of silently saving an icon that reads back as null. The same check now applies in Notion MCP, where notion-create-pages and notion-update-page validate custom\_emoji page icons the same way.
