# Gemini Notebook records up to an hour of live audio

By Steven Van · 2026-10-27

On iOS and Android, a live recording of up to one hour becomes a notebook source, stored as a transcript rather than the audio file.

On October 27, [Gemini Notebook](<https://creatorstoolbox.com/tools/notebooklm>) said its mobile app can record up to one hour of live audio and use that recording as a source. Google's help center documents the same limit on iPhone, iPad, and Android.

In a new notebook, the microphone control is at the bottom. In one you already have, open Sources and then the mic. You can pause, resume, or delete the take, and recording continues in the background and while the phone is locked until you pause or stop it. The help center says the app keeps the transcript as the source and does not keep the original audio.

The post suggests pairing a recording with photos of handwritten notes. It does not name a required plan or a language limit. On September 15, Google said an audio recorder in the mobile app would start the following week. This post says the one-hour recorder is available now.
