# Monthly Report - September 2026

By Steven Van · 2026-09-16

The report includes HDR PNG metadata in Krita Next, a call for gesture testing and a draft mode for recording the visible canvas.

The Recorder should no longer interrupt drawing tools while writing a frame in [Krita](<https://creatorstoolbox.com/apps/krita>) 5.3.4/6.0.4. The [September development report](<https://krita.org/en/posts/2026/monthly-report-2609/>) also covers HDR changes in Krita Next and two input and recording features still in development.

## Recorder and stable release fixes

Exporting a timelapse with missing frames now renames the frame files to remove gaps. The release also fixes Android supporter pack downloads with custom resource folders on some filesystems, and adds Ramon Miranda's SK1, SK2 and SK3 pencil sketch brush bundles to the supporter packs.

Other fixes address animation shortcut crashes after adding audio, potential crashes when converting layers to another color model, layer thumbnail flickering while using Liquify, and a possible Windows crash when holding a key while opening an image. Mouse input on the canvas should no longer trigger the long-press context menu setting.

## HDR color information in Krita Next

Krita Next can now save CICP metadata for HDR in PNG files. It also has explicit options for saving images' color information.

## Gesture testing and viewport recording

A rewrite of touchscreen and trackpad gesture support is ready for testing. It adds trackpad gestures to Krita 6 on Wayland, with testing requested across all platforms to check for regressions.

An optional Recorder mode that captures only the visible part of the canvas, rather than the entire image, is also in development. Work includes limiting how much the resulting timelapse jumps around when the canvas view changes, and feedback on the draft is welcome.

## Community highlights
