# Monthly Report - October 2026

Krita 5.3.4.1 fixes display profile assignment, while development builds add Wayland trackpad gestures and temporary rulers.

Display profile assignment works again in [Krita](<https://creatorstoolbox.com/apps/krita>) 5.3.4.1. The hotfix contains a single regression fix for this color-management bug. The [October monthly report](<https://krita.org/en/posts/2026/monthly-report-2610/>) also covers gesture support, temporary rulers and other changes in the Plus and Next development builds.

## Qt and gesture updates in Krita Plus

Krita 6 builds now use Qt 6.11.0 instead of 6.8.0. Touchscreen and trackpad gesture support has also been rewritten, adding trackpad gestures on Wayland and fixing input issues. The team asks testers to report new issues following the Qt update.

## Temporary rulers in Krita Next

The new Temporary Straight Ruler actions create a temporary Ruler assistant and snap brushstrokes to it. The Normal action uses V+Left Click by default, replacing the default Activate Line Tool shortcut. Shift+V+Left Click activates the Snapped Angle version, which snaps to 15-degree angles.

## Brushtip creation and scripting

The Stamp and Clipboard brushtip creation dialogs have been combined into a single Create New dialog that shares the GBR/GIH export dialog. Export gains Preserve Alpha, while Create New gains dimensions/ranks settings and Velocity animated mode. The change also fixes creating a brushtip from a clipboard image.

The scripting API now exposes Canvas signals for state changes such as zoom and rotation. View.brushPosition provides the live brush position, while Node.paintPolylineStroke can paint strokes using artificial pressure and tilt values supplied through the new StrokePoint class.

## More changes in the development builds

Krita Next also includes updates to editing, animation and file handling:

- Existing filter layers and masks can have their filter changed in Properties.

- PSD files preserve collapsed layer groups and locked layers when saved and loaded.

- The Gradient Tool gains Bayer Matrix dithering options. The previous Dither checkbox becomes the Blue Noise option.

- The Recorder Docker can capture selection tools, Freehand Path, Crop, Text and Move tools.

- The Python Plugins Manager shows plugin status and errors alongside the manual, and allows broken plugins to be disabled.

- Input fixes cover horizontal scrollwheel shortcuts and animation frame shortcuts. Mirror View can also be assigned to a touch gesture.

## Testing the nightly builds

Krita Plus offers the latest bugfixes in 5.3.5/6.0.5-prealpha builds, while Krita Next contains experimental features in 5.4.0/6.1.0-prealpha builds. Both are built daily for Linux, Windows, macOS and Android. There are currently no Qt6 builds for Android.
