# HyperFrames v0.8.143

New setup guidance explains how to select FFmpeg and FFprobe binaries and verify them without Homebrew or a system-wide installation.

## Choose the binaries

Both binaries must be executable and match the operating system and architecture. Set HYPERFRAMES\_FFMPEG\_PATH and HYPERFRAMES\_FFPROBE\_PATH to their absolute paths in the environment that launches HyperFrames. These settings take precedence over automatic discovery. On Windows, the paths should point to ffmpeg.exe and ffprobe.exe.

Alternatively, place the binaries in .hyperframes/bin/ffmpeg and .hyperframes/bin/ffprobe, adding .exe on Windows, and run HyperFrames from the project directory. Discovery checks PATH before that project-local directory, so environment variables are needed to select a particular build.

## Verify the setup

Run npx hyperframes doctor --json and check that the FFmpeg and FFprobe entries report ok: true and the expected paths. The report’s overall status also includes optional tools such as Docker and local voice providers; failures for those tools do not require installing them for a local video render. Chrome needs a separate check using the browser commands.
