# Google Labs Playground makes games from a prompt

By Steven Van · 2026-10-07

Describe a game in chat and play it in the browser. U.S. users 18 and older can open Playground now, with tiered creation access.

Google Labs introduced [Playground](<https://creatorstoolbox.com/tools/google-playground>) on October 7, an experimental platform for creating a game in chat and playing it in the browser. You can start from a blank canvas, a starter prompt, or guided help, then test the result immediately. Google says you stay in control from a rough concept through later changes to the rules, physics, characters, or setting, without writing code.

## How it works

The product page describes a chat-based interface and lists genres such as Trivia, Tower Defense, and Racing, along with the option to create from scratch. After a first version appears, you keep directing it by asking: tweak the physics, rewrite the rules, customize the characters, or overhaul the environment. Because Playground runs in the browser, the same game can be played on a phone or a laptop.

## Sharing, profiles, and multiplayer

A finished game can stay private, go out by link to friends and family, or be published in the Playground Explore gallery. Google says the gallery uses player ratings and play activity to spotlight games, and that every published game goes through safety screenings aligned with its Community Guidelines, plus user reporting. Leaderboards and multiplayer are available in select genres. A Play Games profile lets you claim a custom handle, like games, compete for a top spot, and follow creators.

## Availability

Playground launched on October 7 for people 18 and older in the United States, at playground.google. Creation access is tiered and rolls out based on a Google AI subscription. The announcement does not list a price. Google says an integration with [Unity Spark](<https://creatorstoolbox.com/tools/unity-spark>) is coming, for more advanced mechanics and high-fidelity 3D on the Unity runtime. Spark itself is in testing, with a closed beta coming soon, and Google points to demo games on playground.google.
